2:42 I thought that too. I realize now that that is only partially true. Statistically speaking, students who were on the honor role in high school are more likely to become rich business people, but the majority of people who were on the honor role in high school do not become rich business people.

0:50 That is an absurd myth. You do not need credentials. What is really weird about this myth is that belief in this myth promotes academic dishonesty. After all, if credentials are what you need and you can obtain those credentials by getting good grades, then why would you need to be honest? By cheating, you could get the same credentials without having to do any actual work.

It's funny how you learn more stuff on MNpost and by reading a book, yet School a place where teachers are paid to teach you how to live in the real world doesn't teach you jack s***. Which is one of the main reasons for why there are so many homeless people in the world.

The first myth about credentials isn't always a myth. For example, if you want to be a Professor in most fields (such as mine, Philosophy), I assure you, you *will* need the degree-based credentials to get the position. Anyone can write, pontificate, and possibly get themselves published. But landing a University Professorship is another proposition.

Another myth: a general business degree from a mediocre school is more practical than an arts degree from a Top-Three school for that art form. The real rags-to-riches stories I know all involved either the arts or time in the military! I'm shocked, too.

maybe having a degree doesn't bring happiness but when you don't have it it brings unhappiness.when you go somewhere and start working properly and then you are paid less than the others who exactly do the same thing you do because if the manager pay you the same amount others will riot because they have a degree and they thing they deserve more money for it.

The Harmful Myth I learned in School: Being in the highest ranked section means you are smart and are likely to have better jobs ( I'm from the Philippines so our education system is different) TBH as a honor student in a class full of honor students not all the people are smart but they worked hard to be in the section so that they will go into the best schools and get accepted to have a lot of job opportunities. To me determination and sacrifices are the keys to success

I learned that being 'too good' is detrimental. Not that you need to be badly behaved, but it's so important to not be a pushover, or too agreeable. It is so important to stand up for yourself and disagree sometimes. Schools should implement healthy debates more regularly.

Credentials are HR's excuse if you fail. You misdirect the meaning of them by thinking of yourself. It's a much bigger risk for the HR person to hire someone without them. We must give respect to people that risk to hire people without creds.

The it's-not-all-about-getting-credentials thing, that works for some professions, but not for others. If you went to see a MD and they told you they never went to med school, well, I don't know what you would do, but *I* would find another doctor. If you're going into some sort of science, you're going to need the education.

Very good video. The school system has become less important. I would recommend reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and "Why "A" Students Work for "C" Students and Why "B" Students Work for the Government" They both build on this ideology that grades and degrees are not the most important thing in life.

Apart from highly technical, medical or scientific fields, getting a degree with worthless. There is no white collar job you can't learn how to perform with a little on the job training. Acquiring a skill is by far the best and most secure method earning a living.

I struggled with my grades so much in my youth because school was boring to me... and that created problems with my parents and they said to me so many times things like "If you don't get good grades, you won't be able to enter a good university and if you don't get a degree, you won't have a good paying and decent job". That made me suffer economically for more than 10 years, as I flunked from the University and never got a degree. I think deep inside I believed that since I never got good grades, or had a degree, what I deserved was... bad paying jobs. Powerful stuff, and it has taken a lot of effort to remove that belief from my being.

I thought he was gonna say something different about the 20s. I’m a doctor and I’ve been in school basically until my late 20s and now at 30 I feel like that was a decade wasted for me. Everyone my age is ready to settle down because, like Charlie said, they all made their 20s into something fun, but I feel like I’m just getting stared but it’s too late.

I disagree that good grades don’t lead to success (financially speaking) Good grades are required to attend professional programs like Medicine, Law, and Investment Banking. These are not attainable without high GPAs and pedigree. I see what you’re trying to do, but your advice may misguide younger audiences.

This is 100% true. My high school English teacher during my Junior year in high school showed up his transcript for his all four years in high school and it was honestly very shitty grades. He became an English teacher and he even got kicked out of English his Junior year. Mostly D’s and maybe one or two C’s for every class every year. Then he got D’s and F’s his Senior year. And he considers himself successful. And if you consider yourself successful, then that is success.

The greatest myth I learned was "To do what you loved and don't consider the money. If you go to a job you love then that's all that matters." I wish I had aimed for the highest paying job no matter how much I liked it. By making the money, you are able to do what you love on your own terms. You're quality of life is higher. You're needs are met. You're able to save for the future.

Even though it's not offered to a lot of high schools, I had no idea what I wanted to do, so I took business classes, clerical as in typing, business English, accounting/bookkeeping, etc so when I got out I would have some things to work with. I don't know why this was looked down upon and Votech, which I wanted to go for data processing which would have meant a lot in today's market. My mother wanted me to go to college and refused to allow me to learn to do something, you know, skills. Also, a degree in the 80s and 90s meant something more than it does now. However, having skills such as clerical and votech can really help.

I have a problem and i wanna know what to do. Hung out last night with this cute girl i knew from around and her friend and my friend. We went out to eat after an even where we saw each other and it honestly went very well. (We are all high school seniors btw) My friend was proud of me because i actually got the girls to go out and by the end of the night it was super relaxed and i could be myself. My friend said i should casually her the next day but im only getting one word replies. Its totally different from when im in person with her and i want to have a conversation and keep in touch i just dont know how. I watch a lot of your videos and i thought you could help with this situation. How do i go about approaching this situation?

I would say one of the biggest myths is that wealth equals success. I wanted to be successful my whole life, but since I didn't have any specific goals, I also thought wealth would be it. That's not how it works though, I never really cared so much about money, I just wanted success so probably even if I got rich I would not have felt successful. For there to be success, there has to be a goal.

I got into my field without a degree, just practiced the craft long enough. I sometimes get asked about my formal education and often it seems to blow minds that you can actually not get one. I mean getting a job you want without grinding a degree for a few years first? We are conditioned to think that it's impossible or at least achievable only by the likes of Bill Gates, unique and brilliant people. And I'm just a regular dude.

I’m a 15 high school student and I have a huge favor to ask, could you make a video on filtering friends? I’m at the point with people to where I only truly consider about 2 or 3 people my friends. I tell myself it’s ok but I know in reality there has to be something done about it. But at the same time, I don’t wanna be a jerk about it. I would appreciate it COMPLETELY if you made a video on picking out who is fake, and who is trustworthy, essentially filtering them. Thanks.
